My Eldest Starts School
A sad time, a happy time. My eldest daughter has started school - she was well prepared and eager to be off. Mum on the other hand - not so prepared.
It is hard to let go and hand care of your children over to what essentially are strangers. We place a lot of trust into our education system. We trust they have employed the right people. We trust the resources and generally safety issues are adequate. We trust that the education system is up to the task of preparing our children for adulthood.
I was proud to see my little one of to school today. Sure, tinged with a little sadness. It sure is quiet around the home today, even with three little ones still left here.
I guess they will now have to define their roles in the home whilst the eldest is at school. Of course the dynamics will change again the moment she returns.
The biggest issue I have with sending my kids to school are the bad habits they will bring back. The playground language - our kids have never heard a swear word from either one of us. We will see what time will bring. Happiness, joy and the realization that there is a big world out there - and she has just started the long journey to become a part of it as an individual.
